With the direct support of the President of the University of Nineveh, Professor Dr. Osama Ismail Al-Mashhadani, the guidance of the Dean of the College of Information Technology, Professor Dr. Manar Younis Kashmoula, and the follow-up of the Head of the Department of Computer Networks and the Internet, Assistant Professor Dr. Azhar Sabah Abdulaziz,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

students from the University of Nineveh achieved fifth place at the Fourth Annual Iraqi Artificial Intelligence Forum. The forum, organized by the University of Information Technology and Communications in cooperation with Al-Mustaqbal Private University, was held under the theme: “Empowering Minds with Artificial Intelligence and Redefining the Limits of Possible,” on Monday, February 16, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forum was attended by the Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Helo Al-Askari, along with the Secretary-General of the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, the Director of the UNESCO Office in Iraq, university presidents, and experts in digital transformation and smart technologies. Discussions focused on the latest scientific developments and practical applications, as well as showcasing leading national experiences. The University of Nineveh students’ project competed against 120 other projects from various Iraqi universities, comprising teams of students, professors, and researchers. Their project distinguished itself through its advanced scientific and applied level in employing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for medical diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This achievement was accomplished by fourth-year students Mohammed Sinan Mohammed and Bashar Ammar Ghanem from the Department of Computer Networks and Internet, under the supervision of Dr. Balqis Talal Hassan and Dr. Zaid Jassim Mohammed, through their graduation project entitled: \u201cAi-based Medical Diagnosis System.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister of Higher Education emphasized the importance of Iraqi universities adopting digital transformation and employing AI technologies within the academic environment to create solutions that support sustainable development. He pointed to the necessity of translating the forum’s recommendations into actionable programs that enhance academic modernization, solidify a culture of quality and accreditation, and enable universities to actively participate in the international scientific arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forum included specialized dialogue sessions on the practical applications of AI, in addition to announcing the results of the National AI Developers Competition and honoring the winners, reflecting the universities’ commitment to supporting young talent and promoting digital innovation within higher education institutions. This achievement is a significant addition to the academic journey of the University of Nineveh, and embodies its commitment to supporting applied research and encouraging high-quality graduation projects, thus contributing to keeping pace with rapid technological developments and enhancing Iraq’s position in the fields of artificial intelligence and digital transformation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
