In accordance with the directives of the President of the University of Nineveh, Professor Dr. Osama Ismail Al-Mashhadani, and with the direct support and supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Zeina Ghanem Al-Obaidi, the University Psychological Guidance Unit at the College of Law—under the attendance of the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Khaldoun Fadhil, and the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Adeeb Mohammed Jassim—organized an awareness workshop entitled “Hope Day for Suicide Prevention.” The event was held on Monday, April 6, 2026, in cooperation with the Human Rights Division at the Presidency of the University of Nineveh, and was attended by a distinguished group of faculty members and students.

This workshop comes as part of the continuous efforts exerted by academic institutions to promote mental health within the university environment and to spread awareness about the importance of psychological support—particularly in light of the challenges and pressures students may face throughout their academic journey. The workshop also aimed to shed light on the issue of suicide and to outline preventive measures through the adoption of scientific and practical approaches that contribute to building a safe and supportive environment.

The workshop featured a number of key themes and discussions focusing on the importance of psychological resilience, enhancing self-confidence, and the necessity of seeking help when needed. It also highlighted the vital role of families and educational institutions in supporting individuals and providing appropriate care. Furthermore, emphasis was placed on promoting a culture of hope and positivity, as well as breaking the silence surrounding mental health challenges.

As part of its initiatives, the University Psychological Guidance Unit distributed awareness brochures addressing the workshop’s theme, with the aim of increasing students’ awareness and equipping them with practical guidance to help prevent suicide and promote mental well-being.

The workshop included lectures delivered by:

  • Dr. Ammar Thamer Al-Banna, Head of the Private Law Department

  • Dr. Manal Mohammed Ahmed, Head of the University Psychological Guidance Unit at the College of Law
