About the branch

The branch is concerned with studying the legal relations between members of society and regulating their social lives. The private law branch covers a wide range of laws through teaching them during four academic years, the most important of which are civil law and contracts, commercial law and commercial arbitration, personal status law, private international law, and the law of litigation, evidence and enforcement.

About the General Branch

The General Branch is one of the main branches alongside the Private Branch. The branch was established with the establishment of the College of Law at the University of Nineveh in 2020-2021. The first batch graduated from it in 2023-2024, and the duration of study in it is four years. The General Branch teaches several specializations, the most important of which are administrative law, constitutional law, criminal law, and public international law, as well as public finance and financial legislation. The branch works to prepare students enrolled in its initial studies in order to grant them a bachelor’s degree in law, in order to qualify them to work in several fields, such as judges in state courts and lawyers who plead to defend the rights of individuals, as well as working as legal professionals in state departments and the public sector. The branch includes a distinguished group of law professors with high academic titles and extensive scientific experience.

Vision

The Public Law branch is one of the main branches in the College of Law. The Private Law branch was established in 2020 with the establishment of the college. The branch includes distinguished professors with high academic titles, and scientific and practical experience.

The General Branch Department seeks to provide a sound legal education that combines theoretical knowledge and practical application, promotes scientific research in various legal fields, and equips students with the necessary skills to practice legal professions efficiently, thereby contributing to serving society and achieving sustainable development.

Branch Objectives

  1. The department aims to produce graduates with legal qualifications and the theoretical and practical legal knowledge necessary to work in various fields, including the judiciary, advocacy, and legal consulting.
  2. It seeks to instill an understanding of the importance of the rule of law, respect for human rights, and justice, contributing to the building of a society based on justice and equality.
  3. The department aims to enhance legal awareness among members of society by organizing workshops, seminars, and legal initiatives designed to disseminate legal culture.
  4. It aims to train students in legal and critical thinking, and in the scientific analysis of legal texts and judicial issues.
  5. The department also aims to cultivate the ethical and professional values ​​that govern legal practice and to encourage integrity and adherence to legal standards.
