The Psychological Guidance and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Medicine in Nineveh is affiliated with the Psychological Guidance and Educational Guidance Division in the University Presidency, which is a division affiliated with the office of the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Planning, following up and coordinating all events, activities and programs at the psychological and social level that are implemented in the college, whether by the Ministry of Higher Education or any governmental or civil authority.
Developing the annual plan for educational and psychological guidance for the college and providing sufficient space to implement its programs.
Appointing a psychological counselor at each stage and technically supervising the Psychological Guidance Division in the internal departments for our college students
Allocating a site as a psychological clinic and working to direct the attention of students and employees to the existence of a place in the university capable of solving their psychological problems.
Holding seminars and lectures for the teaching staff to raise awareness about the stages of student growth, and the physical, mental, psychological, social, and educational needs of the student at each stage, to understand the psychological state of the students.
Conducting psychological, behavioral, and educational tests and examinations using the prepared and approved forms, and distributing them to affiliates and students to identify the problems they face and determine treatment mechanisms.
Identifying the most common psychological and behavioral problems that everyone affiliated with the university (students, faculty, employees, or workers) has fallen into and preventing providing assistance to them as quickly as possible by subjecting them to guidance interviews based on scientific foundations.
Studying psychological and behavioral problems from the point of view of the problem owners themselves and psychological and behavioral problems from the point of view of educational counselors assigned to the colleges regarding the psychological problem.
Developing individual care and safety plans, mutually developed and jointly monitored with the beneficiary
Monitoring the development of the ongoing care plan with special attention to psychological prevention issues
Help new students at the university to adapt and engage in the university’s educational atmosphere quickly and easily by introducing them to the unit’s services and meeting their needs in coordination with student affairs.
Following up on cases being followed up by various institutions to ensure the continuity of providing services to the beneficiary and the success of the intervention.
Providing individual guidance to students facing behavioral, social, educational, and psychological problems at the simple level that need support and prevention to prevent the development of the problem by having the individual guidance counselor in his office.
Following up on the academic performance of all students on an ongoing basis through the course coordinators and department heads and identifying cases of academic failure.
Following up on cases of repeated absence of students referred by the Registration Division and studying cases of academic failure and treating them individually.
Providing guidance services to students to develop their personalities and provide them with the necessary skills to confront problems.
Organizing seminars and lectures that address students’ issues and have preventive and developmental goals.
Contributes to employing university activities to develop students’ abilities and inclinations, which helps them form their professional orientations and helps them make decisions about their future career.
Respecting the privacy of the information that students give to the student counselor, whether it is personal or confidential information for students and giving the student freedom to choose the educational counselor.
Help students discover themselves by realizing their abilities, readiness, inclinations, and skills, and understanding the problems they face, whatever their type.
Help students understand their physical and social environment, including its potential and shortcomings, and benefit from their own potential and the potential available to them in their environment; to determine realistic goals for them in their achievement and proper planning; to achieve these goals
Developing students’ ability to make decisions.
Achieving health for students and contributing to helping and training them to solve their problems themselves
Developing students’ ability to dialogue, consult, and express opinions freely and responsibly.
Giving students the ability to change for the better and adapt to unexpected changes.
Collects information about students with physical and health problems and documents it in special records, and coordinates with administrative and educational bodies to help these students adapt to university. Provides advisory and guidance services to administrative and educational bodies on educational issues related to student behavior in the classroom.

Objectives:
Providing specialized psychological counseling services to male and female students to help them deal with the psychological and emotional challenges they may face during their studies.
Providing educational and professional guidance sessions for students to help them choose appropriate university majors and develop successful future plans.
Providing awareness courses and seminars on mental health issues and social relationships and how to deal with them.
Developing development programs and workshops that contribute to enhancing students’ thinking, learning and communication skills.
