The symposium targeted university students and staff, aiming to raise awareness of the dangers of extremism, terrorism, and violence, while highlighting their causes and methods of prevention. This initiative stems from the university’s pioneering role in serving the community and promoting social peace.
The symposium featured lectures delivered by:
- Dr. Nagham Luqman, Head of the Publishing and Awareness Division at the High Commission for Human Rights.
- Mr. Dlwar Saif Al-Din, Head of the Human Rights Department in Nineveh Governorate.
The lectures addressed the phenomenon of extremism and its adverse impacts on society, particularly on youth and university students, while presenting a set of solutions and approaches to mitigate this critical issue. Discussions also covered the different types of extremism (religious, social, intellectual, and political) and the factors contributing to its spread, such as family disintegration, parental neglect, youth idleness, and difficult economic conditions.
The event concluded with constructive scientific discussions and interactive dialogue among participants, which enriched the discourse, deepened understanding, and reinforced a culture of prevention. At the end of the symposium, the lecturers and members of the organizing committee were honored with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the success of the event.
