Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology

Overview

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology was established in 2024. Its core focus is the study of
drug efficacy and mechanism of action on the body’s various organs and tissues, including their side effects
and interactions. The Department also investigates the pharmacological activity of bioactive products on
cells and living organisms, alongside the detrimental effects of chemical, physical, and biological agents
(toxicology) on living systems and the environment.

The curriculum is centered on a deep understanding of the pathophysiology of diseases and a
comprehensive grasp of both pharmacology and toxicology. This integration enables students to link drug
effects with disease mechanisms, thereby strengthening their ability to select appropriate, evidence-based
therapeutic interventions. Furthermore, the Department provides hands-on training using laboratory
animals (e.g., mice, rats, rabbits) to study physiology and drug responses, effectively reinforcing the
theoretical foundations of the subject.

The Department plays a key role in preparing pharmacists to offer pharmaceutical and toxicological
consultations in healthcare institutions. It actively promotes scientific research in drug development and the
study of biological effects, enhancing graduates’ competitiveness in both the pharmaceutical industry and
research sectors, and enabling them to raise community awareness about drug misuse and adverse drug
reactions.
