In alignment with the directives of the President of the University of Ninevah, Professor Dr. Osama Ismail Al-Mashhadani, and within the framework of strengthening cooperation between academic institutions and the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector in Iraq, a delegation from the College of Pharmacy conducted a scientific visit on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, to the Modern Drug Industries (MDI) facility in Abu Ghraib, Baghdad.
The delegation was headed by the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maisar Mohammed Ali Al-Qutji, accompanied by the Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Saad Al-Diwaji, the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Dr. Yasser Hazem, and Dr. Mohammed Nour Al-Din. They were received by the Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors, Dr. Rafi Al-Rawi, who welcomed the delegation and expressed his interest in strengthening scientific partnerships with Iraqi universities.
During the visit, the delegation toured the production lines and reviewed the operational workflows within the facility. Discussions also covered prospects for future cooperation in areas such as training, research, and development.
On the sidelines of the visit, a scientific cooperation agreement was formally signed between the two institutions. This agreement reflects the government’s commitment to supporting national pharmaceutical manufacturing and enhancing integration between academic education and practical application. It encompasses joint research projects, exchange of expertise, and the utilization of available equipment and capabilities of both parties, contributing to improving the quality of national pharmaceutical products and advancing the pharmaceutical industry in Iraq.
The Dean emphasized that this agreement will enable pharmacy students to undertake field training within the facility, thereby enhancing their practical skills and preparing them to effectively join the healthcare labor market.
For his part, Dr. Rafi Al-Rawi expressed his appreciation for the visit and the productive collaboration it yielded, affirming that this partnership represents a significant step toward developing pharmaceutical competencies and strengthening the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector in Iraq.
