College of Pharmacy Organizes a Scientific Lecture Entitled“The Islamic Universal Declaration and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” for First-Year Students

In line with the College of Pharmacy’s commitment to enhancing students’ legal and human-rights awareness, and as part of the activities of the Continuing Education Unit, the Human Rights Unit organized an in-person lecture entitled “The Islamic Universal Declaration and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” for first-year students.

The lecture was delivered by the Head of the Human Rights Unit, Assistant Lecturer Ria Abdulkarim, on Monday, 24 November 2025. During the session, she discussed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights issued in 1948, outlining its role in establishing international standards that ensure the protection of human dignity and fundamental rights without discrimination.
She also addressed the Islamic Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is grounded in the principles of Islamic Sharia and emphasizes the values of justice, equality, and the preservation of human dignity.

The lecture further highlighted areas of convergence between the two declarations—such as the rights to life, freedom, and justice—as well as key differences stemming from their distinct cultural contexts and legislative foundations. The session witnessed notable student engagement, reflecting the importance of the topic in deepening their understanding of human rights from both international and Islamic perspectives.
