The College of Pharmacy organizes an awareness campaign entitled, “Should We Believe Every Food Advertisement?”

As part of its programs aimed at promoting health awareness and fostering sound nutritional culture, the College of Pharmacy organized an educational awareness campaign on Monday, 16 February 2026, entitled “Should We Believe Every Food Advertisement?”. The campaign was conducted through the Volunteer Work Unit affiliated with the Student Activities Division.

The initiative commenced with the distribution of educational scientific brochures to students of the University of Nineveh by the student volunteer team, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturers Wurqa Omar Abd and Ghada Fathi. The distributed materials included simplified guidelines on how to read nutrition labels and understand their essential components.

The campaign sought to develop students’ critical awareness when engaging with food advertisements and products, emphasizing the importance of not being misled by marketing claims such as “healthy,” “diet,” or “sugar-free” without verifying their actual content and nutritional value. It also highlighted that certain products may be marketed as healthy options despite containing components that could negatively impact health when consumed excessively.

This initiative reflects the College’s commitment to preparing a well-informed university generation equipped with scientific knowledge that enables them to make sound dietary decisions, in alignment with its academic mission and societal role in supporting public health concepts and promoting evidence-based pharmaceutical and nutritional awareness.
