The College of Pharmacy organizes an awareness campaign on the safe use of medications during common colds.

As part of its programs aimed at promoting health awareness, the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the College of Pharmacy organized an educational awareness campaign on the safe use of medications during common colds on Tuesday, 17 February 2025.

The Head of the Department, Associate Professor Dr. Saif Khalid Yahya, together with faculty members of the department, delivered a comprehensive scientific presentation that included practical guidelines and applied examples. The initiative aimed to reinforce the principles of medication safety among students, in alignment with the College’s mission to prepare competent pharmaceutical professionals capable of promoting health awareness within the community.

The campaign also highlighted the importance of the rational use of medications intended for the treatment of common colds, with particular emphasis on appropriate dosing, potential drug–drug interactions, and the risks associated with the misuse of antibiotics without medical consultation. Furthermore, it addressed the health hazards resulting from the indiscriminate use of certain pharmaceutical products and stressed the necessity of reading patient information leaflets and adhering to the instructions of physicians and pharmacists.

This campaign forms part of a series of scientific and awareness activities regularly organized by the department to support its academic and societal role in promoting the safe and effective use of medications.
