Under the esteemed patronage of Dr. Osama Ismail Al-Mashadani, President of Nineveh University, and with the direct oversight and unwavering support of Dr. Zeina Ghanem Al-Obaidi, Dean of the College of Law, a distinguished scientific seminar was held on November 6, 2024. The event was further honored by the presence of Dr. Jaafar Ramadan Mohammed, Assistant Vice President for Scientific Affairs, and Dr. Ammar Al-Mashadani, Assistant Vice President for Administrative Affairs. Additionally, the seminar was graced by key figures, including Mr. Hassan Rashkari, President of the Nineveh Journalists’ Union, Brigadier General Mohammed Dham, Commander of the Right Side Traffic Division, and Lieutenant Colonel Ammar Mahmoud Abd, Director of Media and Relations at the Nineveh Traffic Directorate.

“The Right of Society to a Pollution-Free Environment”

The seminar, organized by the Department of Public Law in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, was inaugurated with a powerful message about the urgent need for environmental protection. Dr. Al-Mashadani, in his opening address, underscored the profound significance of fostering awareness regarding environmental safeguards as a means to ensure the health and safety of society at large. Dr. Al-Obaidi, in turn, provided a detailed exploration of the legal frameworks necessary for safeguarding the environment, emphasizing the fundamental right of individuals to live in a pollution-free and sustainable environment.

Following these remarks, the seminar sessions commenced, beginning with an in-depth series of academic presentations. The first and second sessions of the seminar featured scholarly papers delivered by distinguished faculty members from the College of Law. These papers critically examined key issues related to environmental governance, policy, and the legal mechanisms for protecting ecological balance. The discussions produced a set of forward-looking recommendations, which will be submitted to relevant authorities to inform and shape future environmental policies and legislation.

The seminar concluded with a ceremonial presentation of awards. Dr. Al-Obaidi presented a commemorative plaque to Dr. Al-Mashadani and his esteemed colleagues, in recognition of their steadfast support and invaluable contributions to the advancement of the College of Law. Certificates of appreciation were also bestowed upon the seminar’s speakers and organizers, acknowledging their significant efforts in enriching the academic discourse and raising public awareness on environmental protection.

In a moment of special recognition, Dr. Al-Obaidi honored the faculty members of the College of Law who taught developmental courses during the 2023-2024 academic year, designating them as “Heroes of the College of Law” for their role in leading the institution to achieve first place in the northern region. She extended her heartfelt wishes for continued success and excellence to both the esteemed faculty and the college’s student body.

The seminar’s closing ceremony featured the inauguration of an art exhibition by the talented student Ayesha Mohammed Jassim, showcasing her creative works. This artistic expression was a fitting complement to the seminar’s theme, reinforcing the connection between academic inquiry and environmental awareness.
