Graduation Projects at the College of Pharmacy, University of Ninevah, Come to Light and Mark a Distinguished Scientific Achievement

In line with the directives of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy – University of Ninevah, Asst. Prof. Dr. Maysar Mohammed Ali Al-Qutaji, and the College’s continuous efforts to foster a culture of rigorous scientific research and encourage publication in reputable international journals indexed in prestigious global databases,
a significant scientific achievement has been recorded by the Department of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy.

Under the supervision of Asst. Lecturer Ayman Yaseen Sharaf Zibari, and through his guidance of fifth-year students:

  1. Pharmacy graduate Mohammed Ghanem
  2. Pharmacy graduate Salman Nashwan,
a scientific research paper derived from their graduation project for the academic year 2024–2025 has been successfully published in a renowned international journal indexed by Scopus and Elsevier, namely The Microbe, classified as Q2 in its specific field and Q3 overall.

The research, entitled:
“Bio-design of Ganoderma adspersum-grafted silver nanoparticles and assessment of their anti-bacterial efficiency”,
aimed to develop a sustainable, nano-based antibiotic characterized by ease of preparation and low cost, serving as a promising alternative to conventional commercial antibiotics.

For the first time globally, Ganoderma mushroom extract was employed in the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). These nanoparticles were characterized using advanced spectroscopic and imaging techniques (UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, TEM, SEM), confirming their successful formation. Experimental results demonstrated high antibacterial efficacy against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains, highlighting their potential for future application as novel alternative antimicrobial agents.
