Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Vision

To be a leading academic center in pharmaceutical chemistry education and drug development by
integrating advanced scientific research with practical application. The Department aims to enhance drug
efficacy and safety through innovative techniques in drug design and the development of pharmaceutical
products derived from both natural and synthetic sources.

Mission

We strive to provide distinguished education in Pharmaceutical Chemistry by equipping students with indepth
knowledge of the relationship between drug chemical structure and biological activity. We train them
to design and analyze drugs using advanced simulation programs and techniques. We focus on the discovery
and development of drugs from natural sources to meet public health needs in a scientifically sound and
safe manner.

Objectives

  1. To prepare students to understand the chemical foundations of drugs, including how chemical
structure influences pharmacological activity, physicochemical properties, and biological effects.
  2. To train students in drug design techniques using specialized simulation programs to predict
biological specifications and analyze the interactions of small molecules with biological receptors.
  3. To teach students the principles of drug discovery from natural sources, including the extraction of
active constituents from plants and other natural materials, and the evaluation of their physiological
    effects.
  4. To provide students with the skills necessary for drug synthesis and analysis, focusing on drug
formulation, biological activity, and the assessment of quality, safety, and efficacy using state-ofthe-
    art scientific approaches.
  5. To strengthen students’ ability to develop new pharmaceutical compounds based on a
comprehensive understanding of the impact of chemical structures on toxicity and therapeutic
    activity.
  6. To offer hands-on training in pharmaceutical manufacturing, including the process of extraction,
identification, and formulation of both synthetic and natural drugs, ensuring the development of
    effective and safe pharmaceutical preparations.
  7. To promote continuous scientific research in Pharmaceutical Chemistry with the goal of
discovering novel drugs and maximizing the benefits of natural resources for human health.
