Dr. Abd Al-Jughayfi contributed to the discussion of the doctoral thesis titled “International Competition for Oil and Gas in Algeria (1962-2013)” by researcher Karim Salem Hussein Mohammed. The thesis highlighted the importance of natural resources (oil and gas) as crucial global assets and essential for industrial progress. This significance has led major powers to compete for control over these resources, with Algeria being one of the key oil and gas countries.
During the period from 1962 to 1991, France, the United States, and the Soviet Union employed various strategies to align Algeria with their spheres of influence. The Soviet Union succeeded in integrating Algeria into its orbit, largely due to ideological and intellectual alignment between the two countries.
From 1991 to 2013, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, competition for Algerian oil and gas was primarily between the United States and France. Both nations used financial policies and initiatives to draw Algeria into their respective spheres.
