In a significant scientific achievement that adds to the research accomplishments of the College of Pharmacy at Ninevah University, the Ph.D. dissertation of Sabri Ali Sultan, a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy, was successfully defended at the College of Science, Tikrit University, on Sunday, 19 July 2026.
The dissertation, entitled:
“Assessment of Homocysteine Levels and Selected Biochemical Parameters in Patients with Kidney Disease, Partial Purification of Methionine Synthase, and Evaluation of the Effect of a Synthesized Compound on the Isolated Enzyme,”
aimed to evaluate homocysteine levels, selected biochemical parameters, oxidative stress markers, and chronic inflammatory cytokines in patients with chronic kidney disease and those undergoing hemodialysis. The study also involved the partial isolation and purification of the methionine synthase enzyme and the investigation of the effects of a newly synthesized compound on the isolated enzyme. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the biological mechanisms associated with kidney diseases and may provide valuable insights for future biomedical research. The field study included 90 participants, equally distributed among three study groups.
The examination committee commended the dissertation for its high scientific quality, rigorous research methodology, and valuable findings, recommending the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry.
At the conclusion of the defense, the researcher expressed his sincere appreciation to the Deanship of the College of Science and the Department of Chemistry at Tikrit University. He also acknowledged the continuous support and encouragement provided by the Deanship of the College of Pharmacy at Ninevah University throughout the course of his research.
