Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department

About the Department

The department was established with the founding of the college in 2020. Through its modern, approved curricula, the department introduces the basic concepts of pharmacology, including the mechanism of physiological action, biochemistry, the relationship between chemical structure and activity, basic and acidic properties, physical properties, absorption, diffusion in the body, metabolism, and excretion, in addition to the effect of changes in active groups in chemical compounds on toxicity.

The department is concerned with the study of chemicals related to pharmacology and medicine and developing the skills of pharmacy students in drug design through the use of pure drug design programs and biochemical predictions, in addition to programs that simulate the coupling of small compounds with their receptors in the body in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry. This program equips them with the ability and skills to discover and develop drugs through comprehensive knowledge of their preparation, analysis, synthesis, and pharmacological and biological activity, enabling them to assess their quality, safety, and efficacy. The department focuses on the discovery and development of drugs from natural products, their presence in nature, their extraction, and their identification. The practical part provides the basics of manufacturing, extracting and identifying medicines of both natural and chemically manufactured products.
