A workshop at the College of Information Technology warns of the rise of hate speech in the digital space.

On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Human Rights Unit at the College of Information Technology held a workshop entitled “Human Rights in the Age of Technology and the Internet (No to Hate Speech).”

The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturers Suha Abdul-Muhsin Yahya and Inas Amjad Muhammad.

It addressed the concept of hate speech and the distinction between it and freedom of expression, reviewing its most prominent forms on social media and its impact on individuals and society.

It also focused on the reasons for its spread and its psychological and social effects, emphasizing the importance of awareness and education in confronting it and promoting a culture of tolerance in the digital environment. Students, academics, and social activists participated in the workshop
