In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
My dear sons and daughters, first-year students…
Peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.
With hearts full of love and open arms, we welcome you today to your new home, the College of Information Technology at the University of Nineveh. We congratulate you on your success and excellence in secondary school and your choice of this vital specialization, which represents the language of our time and the key to the future.
Today, you are not merely taking a new academic step, but rather beginning the most important stage in shaping your academic and professional personalities. Your college is proud to welcome a new cohort of young minds, and we—the deanship, faculty, and staff—will be your support and assistance in achieving your aspirations.
As you embark on this experience for the first time, I and your professors feel obligated to offer you some advice. Therefore, I present these recommendations to guide you through your first year of university:
- Shift from “learning” to “research”: University differs from school; here, we don’t wait for information to come to us, but rather seek it out. The Information Technology major relies on your passion for exploring new things and engaging in self-directed learning outside of lectures.
- Respect the campus and fellowship: The university is a distinguished academic community. Treat your fellow students with mutual respect, and uphold the traditions of the campus and the dignity of a university student in your appearance and behavior.
- Don’t hesitate to ask questions: You are here to learn. The doors of our offices and laboratories are open to you. Don’t hesitate to ask your professors or seek help from your academic advisors if you encounter any academic or social difficulties.
- Time management is key to success: You will experience greater freedom with your time compared to school, so be careful not to waste it. Balance your studies with your social activities, as technical subjects require daily attention and continuous practical application.
- Build positive friendships: A friend at university is a companion on your future journey. Choose companions who support your studies and motivate you to be creative and innovative, and avoid anything that distracts you from your noble goal.
Welcome back to your college. We wish you an academic year filled with diligence, hard work, and beautiful memories.
Peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.
