College of Information Technology holds a workshop entitled “Educational Programs for the Prevention of Drug Abuse”

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Nineveh, Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Mashhadani, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Information Technology, Prof. Dr. Manar Younis Kashmoula.

On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the College of Information Technology organized a workshop entitled “Educational Programs for the Prevention of Drug Abuse”.

The workshop was presented by a group of professors, namely: –

1- Dr. Ahmed Qasim Ahmed.

2- Dr. Ahmed Mahfouz Taha.

3- Asst. Lec.Zeina Muhammad Siddiq.

4- Asst.Lec. Munira Youssef Yaqoub.

The workshop dealt with several main axes, the most prominent of which are:-

  1. Awareness and education about the risks and effects of drugs: Clarifying the negative effects of drug abuse on mental and physical health.
  2. Developing life skills: It included developing rejection skills and effective communication to enable individuals to deal with stressful situations.
  3. Enhancing family communication and community participation: Focusing on the role of the family and community in protecting individuals from risky behaviors and supporting them in facing challenges.

The workshop aims to:-

  1. Raise awareness of the health, social and psychological risks of drug abuse.
  2. Develop personal skills to deal with stress and make informed decisions.
  3. Provide comprehensive information about the types of drugs and their effects.
  4. Encourage the adoption of healthy and positive lifestyles.
  5. Identify individuals at risk and provide them with the necessary support at early stages.

This workshop came within the framework of the college’s efforts to enhance the role of academic institutions in spreading community awareness, and providing effective educational programs that contribute for preventing negative phenomena and promoting mental health among students and youth.
