The College of Information Technology organized an awareness workshop titled “Voice of Security: Towards Comprehensive Awareness of the Risks of Cyber Extortion.”


Under the patronage and presence of the President of Nineveh University, Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Mashhadani, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Information Technology, Prof. Dr. Manar Younis Kashmoula, the workshop was attended by the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assistant Prof. Dr. Maysar Al-Qutji, along with a distinguished group of faculty members, staff, and students from the university.

On Monday, November 4, 2024, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Information Technology held an awareness workshop in the auditorium of the College of Pharmacy. The workshop aimed to promote comprehensive awareness regarding the risks associated with cyber extortion.

Dr. Karam Mohammed Mahdi, a faculty member specializing in cybersecurity at the College of Information Technology, delivered lectures during the workshop. Her presentation highlighted the significance of cybersecurity, the necessity of data protection and confidentiality, and strategies to avoid breaches of personal social media accounts while maintaining data security. Additionally, social and civil activist Mr. Saad Al-Wazzan presented a lecture on cyber extortion, discussing its methods and how individuals can avoid falling victim to such traps. He emphasized the importance of reporting these issues to relevant security authorities for appropriate handling.

The workshop featured an intervention from the university president, who provided students with preventive advice, urging them to consult the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Units in cases of attempted extortion. He reassured them that these units work in complete confidentiality and praised the role of our security institutions and judicial authorities in prioritizing the eradication of cyber extortion cases.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Dr. Al-Mashhadani presented certificates of appreciation to the lecturers, commending the efforts of those involved in this awareness initiative aimed at equipping our students with knowledge and information. He wished everyone continued success and prosperity
