On Tuesday, 22-10-2024, the College of Pharmacy at the University of Ninevah organized a workshop on “Green Chemistry.” The workshop was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hassan Al-Diwaji, along with a group of academics and college students. The lecture was delivered by the college lecturer, Ms. Heba Hatim.
The workshop addressed the definition of green chemistry as a modern branch of chemistry that aims to minimize emissions resulting from traditional chemical manufacturing processes as much as possible, in addition to innovating new chemicals that benefit the environment. It is also known as sustainable chemistry.
During the workshop, the twelve principles of green chemistry and the benefits of their application were discussed, and various applications of green chemistry were reviewed. The emphasis was made that this approach is not the solution to all environmental problems, but it is the most crucial approach to preventing pollution.
The workshop witnessed significant interaction from the attendees and fruitful discussions, contributing to enhancing understanding and awareness of the importance of adopting green chemistry techniques for a more sustainable environment.
