Graduation Projects at the College of Pharmacy, University of Ninevah, See the Light and Achieve a Distinguished Scientific Milestone

In line with the directives of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Ninevah, Asst. Prof. Dr. Maisar Mohammed Ali Al-Qutachi, and the college’s continuous efforts to promote a culture of sound scientific research and to encourage publication in reputable international journals indexed in prestigious global databases,

the faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy, Asst. Lecturer Ayman Yaseen Sharaf Zebari, successfully supervised fifth-year pharmacy students:
1. Graduate Pharmacist Mohammed Ghanem
2. Graduate Pharmacist Salman Nashwan

who managed to publish a scientific paper that adds to the university’s growing research record. Their graduation project for the academic year 2024–2025 was published in the reputable international journal The Microbe, indexed in Scopus and published by Elsevier, classified as Q2 in the specific field and Q3 in the general category.

The research, entitled:
“Bio-design of Ganoderma adspersum-grafted silver nanoparticles and assessment of their anti-bacterial efficiency”,

aimed to develop a sustainable nanotechnological antibiotic characterized by ease of preparation and low local cost, making it a promising alternative to standard commercial antibiotics. For the first time globally, Ganoderma mushroom extract was used in the eco-friendly synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs).

These nanoparticles were characterized using advanced spectroscopic techniques (UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, TEM, SEM), which confirmed their successful formation. The results demonstrated high antibacterial efficiency against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains, indicating their potential as an alternative antibiotic in the future.
