In accordance with the directives of the President of the University of Ninevah, Professor Dr. Osama Al-Mashhadani, and as part of the activities of the Anti-Drug Awareness Week, the Office of the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, in cooperation with the College of Law, held an awareness lecture on Monday, 17 November 2025, about the harms of drugs on the individual and society.
The lecture was attended by the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Jaafar Ramadan Mohammed, the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Zeina Ghanem Al-Obaidi, along with a number of faculty members, staff, and university students.
The lecture, delivered by professors from the College of Law, addressed the types of widespread drugs and the methods used for their promotion, as well as the health, psychological, and social damages resulting from their use. It also highlighted the legal consequences of drug trafficking and use according to the applicable Iraqi legislations. The lecturer further emphasized the role of educational institutions in spreading awareness and fostering a culture of prevention among students, in addition to the necessity of cooperation between families, society, and relevant authorities to curb this dangerous phenomenon.
At the end of the lecture, the floor was opened for discussion, where attendees presented several questions and comments that contributed to clarifying the legal and social aspects related to drugs and ways to combat them.
