The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Medicine Holds an Introductory Workshop Entitled “Training Academic Advisors”

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Ninevah, Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Mashhadani, and with the direct guidance of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Asst. Prof. Dr. Moamen Junaid Al-Dabbouni, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Medicine, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Division, held an introductory workshop entitled “Training Academic Advisors” on the morning of Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
This workshop comes as part of the College’s plan to enhance university advising skills and improve mechanisms for supporting students academically and psychologically, in order to improve the overall quality of the educational process.

The workshop topics were presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Jenan Saeed Al-Rahho, Head of the Unit; Asst. Prof. Dr. Rasha Nadeem; Asst. Prof. Dr. Zainab Waleed; and Lecturer Sura Abi Saeed. The workshop targeted academic advisors at the College of Medicine and addressed several key themes, including: the role and responsibilities of the academic advisor, methods for monitoring students, and strategies for dealing with academic and psychological challenges they may encounter during their university journey.

The workshop witnessed notable engagement from participants, with many questions and contributions reflecting their interest in developing the academic advising experience within the College and enhancing its positive impact on student support.

At the conclusion of the event, the workshop presented a set of recommendations, most notably the need to strengthen continuous communication between advisor and student, systematically document advising procedures, and adopt periodic follow-up plans for academically struggling students. These measures aim to improve students’ academic performance and reinforce the role of advising as one of the fundamental pillars of quality education at the College of Medicine – University of Ninevah.
