Iraqi scientific journals continue to achieve remarkable progress within the global Scopus database, reflecting the significant development witnessed in Iraq’s research sector in recent years.
According to the monthly statistics issued by the Office of the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Scientific Research Affairs, the number of Iraqi scientific journals indexed in Scopus has risen to 50 journals, compared with only 9 journals in 2022. This achievement represents a major qualitative leap in Iraq’s scientific publishing landscape and strengthens its academic presence on the international stage.
Statistics for 2025 also show the distribution of Iraqi journals across the global quartiles as follows:
🔹 11 journals in the first quartile (Q1)
🔹 9 journals in the second quartile (Q2)
🔹 17 journals in the third quartile (Q3)
🔹 10 journals in the fourth quartile (Q4)
This continuous progress reflects the growing quality of Iraqi scientific journals and their commitment to internationally recognized standards of academic publishing. It is the result of the sustained support provided by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as the dedicated efforts of Iraqi universities, editorial boards, and researchers in advancing the research ecosystem and strengthening the academic environment.
