In line with Ninevah University’s commitment to strengthening its scientific presence in reputable international research databases and promoting high-quality research output, the College of Pharmacy has achieved a new scientific milestone, adding to its academic record.
Dr Younis Ahmed, a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy, has co-authored a research paper published in Desalination and Water Treatment, a reputable international journal indexed in Scopus and classified in the second quartile (Q2). The research was conducted in collaboration with several researchers from the University of Mosul.
The paper is entitled:
“Valorization of Pea Husk Waste Coated with γ-Al₂O₃ Nanoparticles for Cationic Dye Removal from Water”
The study aims to develop a sustainable bio-nanoadsorbent material using pea husk waste coated with aluminium oxide nanoparticles to remove toxic malachite green dye from water. The material achieved a maximum removal efficiency of 96.42% under optimal conditions. The adsorption process was found to fit the isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetics. The findings also demonstrated that the process was exothermic and spontaneous at lower temperatures, with the adsorbent retaining high efficiency over multiple reuse cycles.
This scientific contribution reflects the College of Pharmacy’s ongoing efforts to support research and strengthen its academic presence in international scientific journals, thereby contributing to environmental protection and community service.
