In a scientific achievement that adds to the academic cooperation record among Iraqi universities,
Assistant Lecturer Raghad Nabhan Abdulqader Al-Ezzo from the Department of Anatomy / Division of Medical Biology, College of Medicine, University of Ninevah, contributed as part of a joint research team from the Department of Biology, College of Science, University of Mosul, in registering three novel fungal isolates for the first time globally in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database — one of the world’s most prestigious repositories for the classification and documentation of microorganisms.
The research team consisted of:
1. Asst. Prof. Dr. Faten Noori Mulla Abd – Department of Biology, College of Science, University of Mosul.
2. Lecturer Dr. Hiba Hadi Taha – Department of Biology, College of Science, University of Mosul.
3. Asst. Lecturer Raghad Nabhan Abdulqader Al-Ezzo – College of Medicine, University of Ninevah.
The registered fungal strains include:
• Aspergillus candidus strain FAHHRN1.IQ
• Penicillium carneum strain FAHHRN2.IQ
• Aspergillus terreus strain FAHHRN3.IQ
These strains were isolated from indoor air in hospital wards in the city of Mosul, due to their environmental and health significance—particularly in studies related to air pollution and its impacts on public health.
This achievement represents a qualitative step reflecting the researchers’ efforts in documenting fungal diversity in the Iraqi environment. It also strengthens the scientific presence of the University of Ninevah within the framework of robust local and international research collaboration.
