As part of the activities of the Continuing Education Unit, and in line with the College of Pharmacy’s commitment at the University of Ninevah to promote the principles of safety and enhance the competence of staff and students within the laboratory work environment, the specialized training course entitled “Laboratory Safety” concluded on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
The course lasted for three days, beginning on September 30, and was held in the college’s lecture halls.
The course was presented by:

• Asst. Lecturer Rafah Ameer
The training included both theoretical and practical sessions that covered a range of topics related to general and chemical safety in laboratories, with a particular focus on major risks associated with chemical substances and methods for their safe handling. The program also reviewed the requirements of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and the procedures for reading Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), in line with internationally approved standards.
The course concluded with a practical demonstration of several laboratory devices available at the college, along with explanations on their safe operation and handling, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience that strengthens their practical skills.
This training course comes as part of a series of educational programs organized by the college to raise awareness and knowledge among students and staff, and to promote a culture of safety within the university work environment.
