Under the patronage and in the presence of the President of the University of Ninevah, Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Mashhadani, and through a generous initiative by the Tahrir Association for Development, the University of Ninevah marked a pioneering step among Iraqi universities.
On Monday, June 30, 2025, the University’s Department of Media and Government Communication officially announced the establishment and launch of the University Social Forum during a formal ceremony held in collaboration with the Tahrir Association for Development. The forum includes a select group of faculty members and students from various university colleges and is partnered with the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights, the Community Police Division, and relevant security departments.
The ceremony was attended by the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Mashhadani, the Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ammar Saadoun Hamed, the Dean of the College of Law, Prof. Dr. Zeina Ghanem Al-Obaidi, as well as university staff and students.
During the ceremony, the University President delivered a speech outlining the goals of the Social Forum, emphasizing that the role of the university extends beyond academics to actively engaging with societal issues and serving the broader community. In his remarks, the head of the Tahrir Association for Development, Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Jarba, expressed his gratitude to the University of Nineveh, praising its openness and cooperation in addressing student and community concerns.
The event also included an introductory session presenting the forum’s objectives and activities, led by initiative partners:
– Assistant Lecturer Hussein Akla, President of the Social Forum
– A representative from the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights
– The Assistant Director of the Community Police Division
– Dr. Abdulkarim Al-Jarba
The forum’s mission centers on addressing student-related issues and confronting negative societal phenomena, particularly in areas such as harassment, cyber blackmail, hate speech and extremism, and drug abuse, along with other alien social trends. It also aims to promote future awareness and volunteer activities in service of the community.
The ceremony concluded with Prof. Dr. Al-Mashhadani presenting the University of Nineveh Shield to Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Jarba, in appreciation of the association’s support to the university and its students. Participation certificates were also awarded to the participating entities and to the president and members of the Social Forum.
