Scientific Affairs Department

The Scientific Affairs Department is one of the most important and active departments within the university presidency. It operates under the Office of the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs and consists of the following divisions and units:

  • Scientific Division
  • Scientific Output Marketing Division
  • Government Program Unit

Key Responsibilities

The department, through its divisions and administrative units, carries out numerous vital tasks, including:

  • Establishing criteria for honoring distinguished researchers at the university.
  • Approving authored, co-authored, and translated scientific books as academic references.
  • Implementing the approved system for scientific research plans (planned, completed, and published research).
  • Preparing and monitoring the implementation of scientific research plans for all university faculties.
  • Approving and endorsing participation in conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Encouraging and motivating teaching and research staff to enhance the university’s research standards.
  • Registering researchers on global scientific electronic platforms.
  • Organizing general and specialized exhibitions for scientific outputs.
  • Preparing minutes of meetings for committees related to the department’s work.
  • Overseeing electronic programs related to the department’s tasks in coordination with the Computer Center.
  • Conducting studies and providing recommendations to improve research and scientific publishing processes.
  • Uploading scientific research to the university’s digital repository.
  • Developing creative scientific activities and standardizing data documentation for all university scientific activities, then disseminating results for maximum benefit.
  • Registering researchers for scientific awards, informing them of their importance, and keeping them updated on the latest developments.
  • Honoring researchers on behalf of the university.
  • Informing researchers of ministry directives related to research and submitting proposed projects to the Research and Development Department.
  • Monitoring the Iraqi Science Day Award.
  • Tracking the progress of research units and centers and their annual plans.
  • Preparing the central scientific plan for conferences, seminars, and workshops each year and including it in the scientific activities program (conferences, seminars, and workshops) in other ministries or institutions.
  • Encouraging and motivating teaching and research staff to enhance research standards.
  • Supervising, monitoring, and establishing new research units while ensuring their requirements are met.
  • Implementing the resolutions of industrial advisory councils and marketing scientific outputs.
  • Monitoring submissions on the Applied Research Platform.
  • Preparing monthly achievement reports for all university faculties using an Excel-based electronic form.
