Word from the Head of the Department of Student Activities
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Peace and blessings be upon the master of messengers and the seal of prophets, Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions.
Student activities are a fundamental pillar and an important axis in the educational field, and one of the components of work in higher education to achieve a leadership vision for our dear students, and a platform for creativity and excellence in producing young people who can be relied upon in all areas of life and in instilling noble principles and values in their belonging to this beloved country. All student activities—whether sports, scouting, artistic, cultural, or voluntary—are sources of knowledge, awareness, social relations, and healthy living… Through them, we teach our students how to rely on themselves and how to coexist with the group, to reach the ultimate goal of instilling the spirit of noble humanity within them.
What the world is witnessing in terms of development on all levels cannot allow us to stand idle. Rather, we must continue to work to achieve our aspirations through sound planning, management, and training to reach the set goals. Our university has always aimed to excel in all its activities, and the Department of Student Activities has advanced rapidly to place the name of our university at the forefront among Iraqi universities. It has achieved that with the continuous support and encouragement of the university president and his assistants for administrative and academic affairs, despite the university being newly established and having limited capabilities in terms of sports, artistic, and scouting facilities, in addition to the lack of specialized staff in the sports and arts fields, as there are no colleges of Physical Education and Sports Sciences or Fine Arts. Despite this, we have achieved outstanding results through continuous work in preparing sports and scouting teams and organizing artistic and scouting festivals, where our university has recorded a distinguished presence and positive results in university forums and local, national, regional, and international gatherings, thus achieving its goals in laying solid foundations for building a university that stands out among Iraqi universities through the continuous efforts of the department’s staff and its affiliated divisions, achieving excellence and progress on all levels.
In conclusion, I thank Almighty Allah for granting us the ability to build the edifice of our university… and from Allah comes success.

Establishment of the Department of Student Activities
After the establishment of the University of Nineveh in 2014, fate willed that our country would enter a dark phase that lasted for three years. After liberation from that period, the university rolled up its sleeves to bring life and reconstruction back…
In 2019, the need arose to nurture students’ talents and use their free time in activities that uncover and develop their personalities in sports, arts, culture, and creativity. It is well known to you the great importance and impact of student activities (sports, arts, culture, and scouting) in elevating our university and its faculty and staff—especially our dear students—to the ranks of Iraqi, Arab, and international universities, as well as in discovering, absorbing, and attracting outstanding talents and directing them to serve the vision and path of our beloved university.
To activate and revitalize the Department of Student Activities, Mr. Asst. Lecturer Amer Awn Al-Din Muhammad Al-Mawla was appointed by the former university president Prof. Dr. Muzahim Qasim Al-Khayat to manage the department under a university order dated 3/3/2019 within the administrative structure of the student activities departments and divisions adopted in all public universities and private colleges in Iraq, according to the curriculum of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Supervision and Scientific Evaluation Authority / Department of Student Activities.

Yes, it takes time to achieve, but with support and encouragement, success and leadership will be achieved, and we will be in the forefront among the universities of Iraq and the world…
Organizational Structure of the Department of Student Activities
According to the classification and planning of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Department of Student Activities reports to the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, who in turn reports to the university presidency. The department includes three divisions: (Sports Activities Division – Artistic and Cultural Activities Division – Scouting Activities Division), in addition to several supporting units such as the administrative, media, and financial units.
Objectives of the Department of Student Activities
Sports Activities Aspect:
The department aims to develop physical fitness and enhance the students’ skill levels in all games and competitions, discover sports talents and nurture them, and prepare sports teams in various activities to represent the university. The department works to spread the spirit of cooperation and sportsmanship among college students by promoting university-level competition values. It prepares college sports teams by assigning specialized staff to work in student activity divisions within colleges and equipping these divisions with all necessary sports supplies and equipment. The department also prepares sports fields and halls and issues regulations and instructions for sports tournaments, in addition to preparing supervising and refereeing staff and organizing various competitions between the colleges of the University of Nineveh.
It also manages the affairs of the Sports Activities Division, forms university teams for all sports, monitors them, appoints supervisors for internal and external tournaments, and issues and distributes tournament regulations to participants to ensure smooth tournament operations, as well as participates in external and regional championships.
Artistic and Cultural Activities Aspect:
The department aims to develop the capabilities of talented students in various arts such as drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and home arts through qualified staff, organizing developmental courses and exhibitions, embracing poetic talents, and refining them through poetry festivals and visual arts competitions for University of Nineveh colleges.
The goal of the Artistic and Cultural Activities Division is to attract and develop students’ artistic and cultural talents, raise their level, and enable students to benefit from arts in other disciplines. It sets an artistic curriculum to develop students’ talents in visual arts (including various drawing styles, sculpture, handicrafts, and theater) and promotes cultural activity in writing and recitation.
Scouting Activities Aspect:
The department aims to spread awareness among students (rovers for male students and guides for female students) and engage in volunteer work under the university scouting motto “Community Service”, and to spread community service awareness and culture among students. It also forms university teams to participate in local, regional, and international scouting camps.
It instills scouting values through participation in scouting camps, prepares various types of scouting teams, and adopts modern methods and programs in scouting work appropriate for the academic university level. The department also prepares scout leaders by enrolling them in ministry-sponsored scouting courses, trains and develops scout leaders within the colleges, forms university and college-level volunteer teams, and supports voluntary initiatives carried out by civil society organizations in academic, artistic, and cultural fields.
Department Mission
The mission of the department lies in attracting students talented in various fields, refining their talents, and helping them reach their highest potential. It also involves preparing and equipping high-quality sports fields and halls, developing the leadership, training, refereeing, and artistic skills of the department’s employees, as well as enhancing their social skills in managing student activity divisions within the colleges.
The Department of Student Activities at the University of Nineveh plays an active role in achieving many of the accomplishments and ambitions that students have always aspired to, including building positive relationships with others through various activities, highlighting artistic and sports talents, participating in external tournaments, and identifying talented players for involvement in all sports, artistic, and scouting events. Scouting, a recently established division, is the first of its kind to focus on building student character and self-reliance through organizing and participating in scouting camps across Iraqi universities. Our university achieved positive results during its first participation in a scouting camp held in Diyala Governorate.
Department Vision
The department’s vision stems from developing and enhancing students’ skills in various athletic, artistic, cultural, and scouting fields, enabling them to interact, work, and contribute effectively to development courses, sports competitions, scouting camps, and artistic and cultural festivals. It seeks to utilize and nurture youthful energy based on scientific foundations, provide opportunities to practice hobbies, reveal creative talents across fields, and build a community with refined characteristics.
