Under the patronage of the President of the University of Ninevah, Professor Dr. Osama Ismail Al-Mashhadani, and as part of the activities of the World Antibiotic Awareness Week (18–24 November), the Central Committee for Community Service organized a distinguished awareness campaign through the distribution of a brochure entitled “Together to Protect Antibiotics.”
The campaign targeted visitors at primary healthcare centers in Ninevah Governorate with the aim of raising public awareness regarding the rational use of antibiotics and limiting the spread of antibiotic resistance.
Members of the committee, with the participation of second-year medical students, distributed the brochures to visitors while providing a brief explanation on the risks of improper antibiotic use and the importance of adhering to medical guidelines. The campaign witnessed great positive interaction from the public, who showed clear interest in the information provided and a strong desire to benefit from it.
The involvement of the medical students in this activity contributed to enhancing their medical communication skills and provided them with practical experience in directly engaging with the community. This hands-on participation reinforces essential concepts of health responsibility and conscious medical practice.
The campaign contributed to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals, most notably:
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
By promoting community awareness and encouraging healthy practices to reduce antibiotic resistance.
Goal 4: Quality Education
By enabling students to learn through practice and develop their practical and communication skills.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
As the campaign helps reduce the excessive and irrational use of antibiotics.
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Through collaboration between the Central Committee for Community Service, the college, and health centers to effectively serve the community.
Dr. Dhelal Ahmed Al-Jumaili, Chair of the Central Committee for Community Service, affirmed the committee’s continued commitment to fulfilling its vital role in promoting health awareness, building communication bridges with the community, and implementing high-quality initiatives that contribute to improving health knowledge and encouraging positive behaviors—supporting the institution’s vision and mission in serving the community and advancing its health future.
