The College of Information Technology at the University of Nineveh participated in the Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence Forum, organized by the Technical College of Computer Engineering and Artificial Intelligence at the Northern Technical University, on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
The forum opened with a welcoming speech, followed by a speech by the President of the Northern Technical University, Professor Dr. Alia Al-Attar, who officially launched the forum’s activities and inaugurated the Ashur CTF competition. Then came a speech by Dr. Hassan Hadi Latheeth, Director of the Cybersecurity Directorate at the Ministry of Defense.
The forum sessions included a series of specialized scientific lectures. Dr. Hassan Hadi Latheeth delivered a lecture addressing national goals and adopted strategies to enhance the cybersecurity system in Iraq, while also discussing ethical considerations and educational approaches related to this vital field.
Dr. Karam Mohammed Mahdi, a faculty member at the College of Information Technology, delivered a lecture titled “Post-Breach Investigations and the Role of Digital Forensics in Cybersecurity.”
Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Ghanem Ayoub presented a lecture on “Cybersecurity in the Banking Sector: An Applied Model,” while Assistant Professor Dr. Raed Rafe Omar delivered a distinguished lecture titled “Sample Classification Using Artificial Intelligence.”
The forum concluded with a lecture by the Head of the Software Department at the College of Information Technology, Dr. Ali Mohsen Ahmed, titled “Artificial Intelligence Between Innovation and the Challenge of Ensuring Privacy,” which highlighted the delicate balance between technological advancement and the need to protect personal data.
The forum witnessed notable and high-quality attendance, including the participation of several security figures such as the Director of the National Security Agency in Nineveh and the Director of Intelligence in the governorate, along with a group of academics and researchers. This distinguished presence formed a cornerstone in affirming the importance of integration between the security and academic sectors in addressing the growing challenges in the cyberspace domain.
