The Impact of Drugs on the Individual and Society: An Awareness Workshop Organized by the Human Rights Unit at the College of Information Technology

The Human Rights Unit at the College of Information Technology organized an awareness workshop on Tuesday, 16/12/2025, entitled “The Impact of Drugs on the Individual and Society.”

The workshop was delivered by Senior Legal Advisor Watfa Diaa Yaseen and aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking, while highlighting their negative health, psychological, social, and economic effects, as they pose a real threat to the individual, the family, society, and the state.

The workshop also addressed the definition and types of drugs, the mechanisms of their spread, and their harmful effects on physical and mental health. In addition, it clarified the legislative and legal stance on drug use and trafficking, the resulting legal penalties under applicable laws, as well as methods of prevention and reporting.

The event was attended by a number of university staff and students, reflecting the College of Information Technology’s commitment to supporting awareness activities that enhance community awareness and protect youth, in line with the university’s role in serving society and promoting a culture of human rights.
