In line with the university administration’s commitment to fostering excellence and creativity,
the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Osama Al-Mashhadani, honored Amir Basim Younis, a student from the College of Pharmacy, and his academic supervisor, Dr. Abeer Mansour Abdul Rasul, on Thursday, December 19, 2014. They were awarded certificates of appreciation in recognition of their efforts in registering a new bacterial strain in the Global Gene Bank and publishing their scientific research titled:
“Antibiotic Resistance to Bacteria Isolated from Burn Patients in Mosul City”
The study emphasized the significance of its scientific findings in developing effective strategies for infection control and improving treatment protocols for burn patients. It highlighted the importance of investigating bacterial resistance to antibiotics as a critical step toward enhancing the treatment of burn patients and reducing infection rates and related complications.
The research was conducted at the Burns Hospital in Nineveh Province, where a resistant bacterial strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was isolated from samples taken from hospitalized patients. This new strain was documented in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), contributing to the global database of resistant bacteria and expanding scientific knowledge in this field.
The university administration praised this remarkable scientific achievement, reaffirming its continuous support for advancing research to raise knowledge levels and develop innovative strategies to address medical challenges.
