The President of Ninevah University Reviews the “Sumer” Smart Agriculture Project

As part of supporting student innovation and promoting the shift toward sustainable technologies, the President of Ninevah University, Professor Dr. Osama Ismail Al-Mashhadani, met with a group of university students who developed the “Sumer” project. The meeting was attended by the Director of the Science and Technology Parks Department, Dr. Uday Al-Abbadi, and the agricultural engineer Mr. Ghassan Ismat.

“Sumer” is an advanced smart agricultural robot powered by solar energy. It utilizes artificial intelligence technologies and laser beams to combat harmful weeds, contributing to the protection of strategic crops and reducing reliance on chemical pesticides. Additionally, it supports the concepts of precision agriculture and water conservation.

The innovation is led by student Mohammed Ahmed Talib, along with his team, who delivered a brief presentation on the system’s mechanism and its potential applications in the Iraqi agricultural environment. They emphasized their commitment to developing a practical technological solution that addresses current agricultural challenges.

For his part, the University President praised the students’ efforts and their high-quality innovations, affirming the university’s commitment to supporting pioneering projects that serve the community and enhance food security. He also highlighted the importance of transforming such ideas into practical, field-applicable solutions.

This meeting comes as part of a series of university activities aimed at nurturing young talents and encouraging applied scientific research across various fields.
