In line with the vision of the Presidency of University of Ninevah to enhance scientific rigor and improve the quality of international academic publishing, and as part of the efforts of the College of Pharmacy to support scientific research and develop scholarly output, a group of faculty members from the college successfully published a scientific paper in a prestigious international journal ranked within the first quartile (Q1) and indexed in Scopus databases. The paper was published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, published by Elsevier.
The research was entitled:
“Ethnopharmacological Validation of the Anti-inflammatory, Analgesic and Antioxidant Activities of Myrtus communis L. Leaf Extracts.”
The study was conducted by:
- Assistant Lecturer Dr. Abeer Mansour Abdulrasool

The study aimed to investigate the therapeutic properties of extracts derived from the leaves of the myrtle plant (Myrtus communis L.), particularly their anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant activities. It also examined the relationship between the phenolic composition of the extracts and their pharmacological effects using advanced analytical techniques and laboratory biological models.
The findings demonstrated the superiority of the ethyl acetate extract, which is rich in flavonoid compounds—especially kaempferol—in producing promising pharmacological effects compared to the other extracts. These findings enhance the potential for its use in future pharmaceutical studies and therapeutic applications.
This scientific publication represents a distinguished addition to the research achievements of University of Ninevah and reflects the active academic presence of its faculty members in reputable international scientific journals, as well as the level of scientific and research advancement witnessed by the College in various pharmaceutical and medical disciplines.
