Research Team from the College of Medicine at the University of Ninevah Publishes an International Study on the Effects of Microgravity on Breast Cancer Cells

As part of the University of Ninevah’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its scientific and research presence at the international level, a research team from the College of Medicine has achieved a new scientific milestone by publishing a distinguished study in Life Sciences in Space Research, an international journal published by Elsevier. The journal is indexed in both Scopus and Clarivate databases and is ranked within the first quartile (Q1).

The study is entitled:

“Investigating Microgravity’s Role in Morphological Changes, Growth Behavior, DNA Damage, and Cytotoxic Responses of AMJ13 Breast Cancer Cells”

The research team was led by Associate Professor Dr. Moamen Junaid Al-Dabbouni, Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Nineveh, in collaboration with:

  • Dr. Qasim Al-Nuaimi
  • Dr. Abeer Wali Ahmed
  • Dr. Mohammed Al-Taie
  • Dr. Saif Al-Din Al-Taie

The study was also conducted in cooperation with international researchers from the People’s Republic of China, as well as several researchers from Iraqi universities, reflecting a collaborative scientific effort aimed at advancing medical research with global impact.

The research investigated the effects of a microgravity environment on AMJ13 breast cancer cells by examining morphological changes, growth behavior, DNA damage, and cytotoxic responses. The findings contribute to a deeper scientific understanding of the factors influencing cancer cell development and open new avenues for both medical and space-related research.

This achievement reflects the advanced scientific standards of the College of Medicine at the University of Ninevah and highlights the continued commitment of the University’s researchers to producing and disseminating high-quality scientific knowledge through publication in prestigious international journals. Such accomplishments further strengthen the University’s academic standing and reputation at both regional and international levels.

This accomplishment adds to the University of Ninevah’s growing record of scientific achievements and demonstrates its dedication to supporting scientific research and fostering academic collaboration with leading international research institutions.
