Two Researchers from the College of Information Technology at the University of Ninevah Publish a Scientific Paper in an International Elsevier Journal

As part of the University of Ninevah’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its international research presence, two researchers from the College of Information Technology have achieved a new scientific milestone by publishing their joint research paper in Franklin Open, an international journal published by Elsevier and indexed in Scopus as a Q2 journal.

The paper is entitled:

“Efficient Medical Diagnosis Using Parallel Lightweight Deep Learning on Edge Computing”

The research was conducted by:

  • Dr. Balqees Talal Hassan Agha, Lecturer, Department of Artificial Intelligence.
  • Dr. Zaid Jasim Al-Araji, Department of Computer Networks and Internet.

The study focuses on developing an intelligent medical diagnosis system based on Edge Computing technologies for real-time processing of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans and chest X-ray images. The proposed approach provides faster and more efficient diagnostic solutions compared with conventional cloud-computing-based systems.

The researchers developed a lightweight deep learning model named Micro-DiagNet, specifically designed to operate on resource-constrained devices. The model achieved an accuracy of 98.67% in brain tumor diagnosis and 97.83% in chest X-ray image classification, while maintaining high performance and low computational resource consumption.

Furthermore, the study employed a distributed parallel architecture based on edge computing and modern networking technologies. This architecture significantly improved processing speed and reduced response time, enhancing the applicability of these technologies in intelligent healthcare systems and real-world medical applications.

This achievement reflects the advanced scientific capabilities of researchers at the College of Information Technology and demonstrates the University of Nineveh’s commitment to supporting high-quality research in the fields of artificial intelligence, edge computing, and intelligent systems, contributing to the development of innovative technological solutions that serve the healthcare sector and society.
