In a distinguished academic achievement that adds to the College of Pharmacy’s record of scientific excellence, the doctoral dissertation of Mr. Sabri Ali Sultan, a faculty member at the College of Pharmacy, University of Nineveh, was successfully defended at the College of Science, Tikrit University, on Sunday, 19 July 2026.
The dissertation, entitled “Study of Homocysteine Levels and Certain Biochemical Parameters in Kidney Disease Patients, with the Isolation and Partial Purification of Methionine Synthase and the Preparation of a Compound to Investigate Its Effect on the Isolated Enzyme,” focused on evaluating homocysteine levels, biochemical alterations, oxidative stress markers, and chronic inflammatory cytokines in patients with chronic kidney disease and those undergoing hemodialysis. The research also involved the isolation and partial purification of the methionine synthase enzyme and the investigation of the effect of a synthesized compound on the isolated enzyme, contributing to a deeper understanding of the biological mechanisms associated with kidney diseases and providing valuable insights for future research. The study included 90 participants, equally distributed into three groups.
The examination committee commended the dissertation for its high scientific quality, rigorous research methodology, and valuable findings, recommending that the researcher be awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry.
At the conclusion of the defense, the researcher expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Deanship of the College of Science and the Department of Chemistry at Tikrit University, as well as to the Deanship of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Ninevah, acknowledging their continuous support and cooperation throughout the completion of his research.
