Assistant Dean of the College of Information Technology for Scientific Affairs chaired a committee to discuss a master’s thesis in engineering technology at Northern Technical University

as part of the scientific cooperation agreement between Nineveh University and Northern Technical University.Asst.Prof. Dr. Ali Othman Mohammed, Assistant Dean of the College of Information Technology for Academic Affairs, chaired a committee to discuss a master’s thesis in engineering technology at Northern Technical University in the field of Computer Techniques Engineering titled “Design and implementation of smart Reader glasses for Visually Impaired”.The thesis proposed using deep learning model for document content recognition, as well as tesserocr for text recognition and conversion into text strings using Google Text-to-Speech (gTTS) technology, and implementing the SRG system using three deep learning models (YOLOv5s and YOLOv5m).The aim of the thesis was to create a system that helps individuals with visual impairments and low vision to read documents in various fields written in both Arabic and English languages and convert them into audible speech for the blind person through headphones. The thesis concluded with a number of recommendations, the most important of which are:1- Adding a higher resolution camera to improve image quality and optical character recognition.2- Using a larger and more diverse dataset to improve the system.3- Expanding the scope of research to include different types of documents, including old archival documents that often contain large amounts of noise. The examination committee consisted of:
1- Dr. Ali Osman Mohammed as Chairman.
2- Dr. Mohammed Sabah Girgis as Member.
3- Dr. Maan Abdul Khaliq Yahya a Member.
4- Dr. Fadwa Sabahi Mustafa as Member and Supervisor.
At the end of the discussion, the Dean of the College of Engineering Technology, Dr. Majid Khalil, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to the Chairman of the Examination Committee, Dr. Ali Othman Mohammed, expressing his gratitude and appreciation to Nineveh University for its continuous scientific cooperation.
