The College of Electronics Engineering, Department of Electronic Engineering, at the University of Ninevah held a discussion of the Master’s thesis submitted by Motasem Hazzaa Ismail, entitled:
“Design and Optimization of a UWB-Based Health Monitoring System.”
The thesis aimed to design a low-cost system for remotely monitoring respiratory rate using Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology and the XGBoost algorithm. The system enables the monitoring period to be reduced to 20 seconds while maintaining high accuracy, with real-time operation supported by the Raspberry Pi 3B+ platform.
The results demonstrated an accuracy of 95.9% and a 100% success rate within an error margin of ±2 breaths per minute, with excellent agreement with the reference MIR Spirolab measurement device.
The discussion committee was chaired by Prof. Dr. Jaafar Ramadan Mohammed, with Prof. Dr. Aws Zuhair Younis and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sahar Lazim Qadouri as members, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed as a member and supervisor. The discussion was attended by Prof. Dr. Khalid Khalil Mohammed, Dean of the College of Electronics Engineering.
